Protectowire Cable Type Temperature Detectors

Protectowire Cable Type Temperature Detectors

Protectowire is the first company which has developed the linear temperature detection technology in the world. The linear temperature detectors are advanced multi-criteria detectors that are capable of detecting different temperature values between 57°C and 260°C. It is a special cable that detects temperature changes anywhere at its full-length.  It triggers an alarm when a constant activation temperature is reached. Protectowire is designed for use with control modules or fire detection panels.

Protectowire linear temperature detectors consist of two steel conductors separately insulated with a temperature sensitive polymer. The insulated conductors are twisted together so as to create spring pressure between them. They are then wrapped with protective tape. They are covered with an outer sheath suitable for the environment in which the detector will be installed.

Protectowire linear temperature detectors provide outstanding coverage area. They are more reliable and their maintenance cost is less than conventional detectors. They are available in types that are suitable for almost any environment. They are FM certified and UL listed.

Operating Principle of Protectowire Cable Type Temperature Detectors

If Protectowire linear temperature detectors are exposed to temperature above a nominal alarm temperature, the temperature sensitive polymer gets impaired and a short circuit occurs at that point. This bypasses the end line resistance and substantially increases current flow along the loop. The monitoring circuit is configured to consider this as an alarm condition.

Advantages of Protectowire Cable Type Temperature Detectors;

  • Capable of detecting temperature at any point at its full-length
  • Low maintenance cost
  • Outer sheaths are resistant to corrosion, chemicals, moisture and over-temperatures
  • Capable of being installed in proximity of hazards for rapid response
  • Long service life
