Anadolu Isuzu Şekerpınar Factory, Gebze

Anadolu Isuzu Gebze Şekerpınar Factory, with its establishment dating back to 1965 and operating in the commercial vehicle industry, started its operations in 1999. The manufacturing facility built on a 300,000 m2 land with almost 1000 employees includes a 100,000 m2 of closed area and horizontal architecture. The annual production capacity with a single shift is 19 thousand vehicles. The factory is in a solution partnership with EEC Entegre Bina Kontrol Sistemleri for over 25 years for the installation and maintenance services of the safety of life and property systems at the factory.

The Role of EEC

EEC has installed Edwards Fire Detection and Alarm Systems, 4EVAC Emergency Announcement and Voice Alarm, Aerosol Panel Extinguishing, Emergency Lighting and Guidance Systems at Anadolu Isuzu’s facility in Kocaeli. EEC performed the engineering, material supply and commissioning services for the systems.

Technical Approach

Different types of devices were selected for the Fire Detection System to address the different needs of the manufacturing departments of Anadolu Isuzu, which operates in the automotive industry. The system installation involved 711 smoke detectors, 78 heat detectors, 63 combined detectors, 118 fire alarm buttons, 6 main panels, 1 repeat panel and graphic monitoring software.

Xtralis-Vesda brand aspirating smoke detectors with high detection sensitivity were used to address the needs of the facility’s structure and manufacturing processes. Fireray and Osid brand beam type smoke detectors were selected in accordance with the needs of wide, high-ceiling areas.

Within the scope of upgrading the Fire Alarm and Detection system, which was installed at the facility years ago using conventional detectors, the transition process that began in 2023 is being carried out gradually using addressable detectors.

In order to mitigate the risks, particularly in the departments where the paint shop cabins are located, an Aerosol Panel Extinguishing System mounted directly on the electrical and electronic panels, and capable of quickly and effectively extinguishing fires that may start inside the panel, has been installed. The panel extinguishing system, which gets triggered by high temperatures and automatically extinguishes fires, has been gradually implemented to all the panels throughout the facility.

In order to provide the pressurized water required for water extinguishing systems throughout the facility, UL/FM approved diesel fire pumps have been integrated into the system and the level of precaution has been raised. The surrounding fire hydrant system and hydrant cabinets, and the fire pump groups and fire water tanks used to pressurize such systems have been installed and put into operation in order to allow intervention in possible fires in the outdoor parking areas where vehicles manufactured at the facility are stored.

In case of a potential emergency at the facility, EN54 approved “4EVAC Emergency Announcement and Voice Alarm Systems”, which offer end-to-end solutions from central units to speakers, from emergency announcement microphones to fiber converters, have been installed in order to manage the evacuation of employees to safe zones as quickly as possible.

In the event of a disaster or security threat that may cause a power outage, “EEC Emergency Lighting and Guidance Systems” have been installed throughout the facility to facilitate evacuation the employees from the building, and to ensure that they can quickly reach a safe zone without being left in the dark.

Moreover, upgrades were found necessary to address the problems experienced in the cameras of 3 different brands of IP CCTV Systems at the facility. Milestone Video Management Systemwas installed as a solution to allow 470 cameras of the 3 different systems to be controlled from a single software. Beyond live image monitoring, Milestone offers advanced security with flexibility and quick mobility thanks to its features such as event management, video analytics, scalability, remote access and integration with other systems.
