Founded in Istanbul in 1993, Koç University is a non-profit foundation university. Koç University Hospital is the research and training hospital of the Koç University Faculty of Medicine. Koç University Faculty of Medicine, which started its academic life with the first students in the 2010 – 2011 academic year, raises doctors that have vast knowledge of clinical medicine, through its innovative approach and dynamic staff.

The first phase of the hospital that was completed in September 2014 was put into service with a total of 192 single patient rooms, 12 operating rooms, a 55-bed intensive care unit, 14 bone marrow transplantation beds and 49-bed anesthesia intervention and pre and post-operative care units. The children's hospital is located on a separate area of ​​10.000 sqm.

The 2nd phase construction process started in November 2014 and the 220.000 sqm complex was completed and opened in 2016. The campus was designed to include the hospital group, training and research areas, advanced simulation and application center, auditorium, classrooms and social areas.

Role of EEC

Bordo Engineering, which undertook the weak current systems of the Koç University Hospital, decided to cooperate with EEC for the installation of fire safety systems. The work that was started in April 2013 in the first phase of the hospital, which is located in Davutpaşa and which consists of the basement floor and the first block, was completed in 2015. The installation of the fire safety systems was completed at the end of 2016, together with the construction work on the 2nd phase of the hospital.

Technical Approach

Providing services for the fire and security systems of the hospital, EEC selected the Edwards EST3 product to ensure the integration of the ventilation, smoke removal and fire alarm systems, by taking the high-level security requirements of the project into consideration.

The number of detectors used in the first and second phases of the project was 4000 and some 1200 monitoring points were created. The fire safety systems were designed to be controlled and managed through the FireWorks graphic display software. EEC, which installed the fire and security systems of the Koç University Hospital, was also appointed for the management of the emergency scenarios of the system.
