Emsey Hospital, one of the private hospitals in Turkey, was founded in Istanbul Kurtköy to provide services in all branches of medicine. Fulfilling the international quality standards with its technological infrastructure and specialized teams and providing services in Turkey at the developed country standards, Emsey Hospital offers services in Brain and Nerve Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Urology, Orthopedics and Traumatology, International Pain Center, Cardiovascular Surgery, Cardiology and all other branches of medicine. Emsey Hospital, as one of the most prestigious hospitals in Turkey, has a capacity of 191 beds, including 112 service beds, 16 general intensive care beds, 13 coronary intensive care beds, 8 cardiovascular intensive care beds and 42 neonatal intensive care beds. It also offers patients the opportunity to receive treatment without loss of time, with its polyclinic network coordinated with the smart building automation system.
All security systems of the building were designed and implemented by EEC. The UTC Edwards Smart Addressable Fire Alarm System, UTC CCTV System, UTC CASI Access Control System, Bosch Emergency Announcement and Music Broadcasting System, DUKANE Nurse Call System products were used.
The devices used in the Emsey Hospital fire alarm system were selected from the UTC Edwards Signature Series products offered with the quality and experience of EEC. The Signature Series includes high technology, microprocessor-controlled and algorithm-based detection components that have the capability to make decisions with the fire algorithms obtained after long test processes. The EST3 and Signature Series were tested and certified according to EN54, which is the European Standard valid in our country. All parts of the system also have American certificates such as UL and FM. Independent and internationally-recognized certificates are one of the most essential criteria in the selection of a fire alarm system.
There are 18 fire loop lines connected to 1 set of EST3 fire alarm panels within the hospital. 1300 detectors and some 400 monitoring /control modules were used on these loop lines for detection and control purposes, and there are some 150 flashers used for alarming purposes. In the lobby that has a high ceiling, protection is ensured by a beam type smoke detector. Besides, natural gas and water detection detectors at various points of the building are integrated into the fire alarm system.
With this system installed, a structure was created that is extremely flexible, not restrictive in terms of the future, and able to respond to different needs in different periods. The system that was programmed with this structure can be easily adapted to changing scenarios.
The fire detection and alarm system in the building operates in integration with the other mechanical-electromechanical systems according to the emergency scenario.
Within the scope of this integration, the emergency management of the smoke control system is executed with the control of air handling units, fire dampers, smoke removal fans and stairwell pressurization fans, which are part of the ventilation system, and the smoke in the fire area is removed from the building without spreading to the other safe areas. Also, the control of the stairwell pressurization fans, which were installed to keep the stairs with escape routes clean in terms of smoke, is executed to ensure the safe evacuation of people.
The status of the flow switches, line shut-off valves and fire pumps in the Water Extinguishing System is continuously monitored with the UTC Edwards Signature Series single or two-channel contact monitoring modules, while inspecting whether the system is smooth and ready to operate before a real fire occurs, the operation of the water extinguishing system in case of emergency is monitored.
The controls such as calling the elevators to the ground floor in case of fire and directing the elevators to another floor that is selected alternatively if there is a fire on the ground floor are also executed automatically by the UTC Edwards Signature Series control modules within the scope of integration with the relevant systems.
The control of the voice evacuation announcement made through the loudspeaker system is ensured by the fire alarm system so that people can be evacuated accurately and quickly.
The alarm and fault conditions of the gas extinguishing systems installed in various critical areas are also continuously monitored by the fire alarm system.
There is a Graphic Monitoring Computer and FireWorks Graphic Monitoring Software.
The FireWorks Graphic Monitoring Software is an interface program that ensures data communication between the EST3 Panel and the user.
Thanks to this software, all devices that are monitored and controlled by the fire alarm system can be graphically viewed on the architectural plans, and in case of possible alarm situations, it is possible to quickly access the architectural plans of the relevant areas and make detailed reviews on the plans.
In addition, point-based communication with the Building Automation System (BMS) is executed through the Communication Bridge. With the BACNET/IP protocol, approximately 1000-point information is provided to the BMS.
As in the Emsey Hospital project, the UTC Edwards Signature Series product family offers unique solution opportunities in projects with thousands of detection and control points, where large-scale and complex smoke control management is required, and the integration with the other building systems is intense.
In today's hospital projects, it has become important to take measures particularly for the safety of life and property and as a result, to ensure the safety of patients and their relatives electronically. This factor is fulfilled by the UTC camera system at Emsey hospital.
The hospital is protected by a total of 280 high resolution cameras. 224 of these cameras are internal type mini dome and fixed color cameras and the rest are external cameras with day/night vision.
Particularly the critical points such as patient corridors, polyclinic departments, nurse counters, secretary offices, technical areas, fire escapes, parts of the building opening to external areas, main entrances and emergency service entrances are monitored and recorded on a 24/7 basis.
All cameras connected to the system are recorded through 18 digital recorders. The system is monitored by security officers on a 24/7 basis. In addition, the desired camera images are switched to the relevant monitors automatically or manually by using the matrix switcher connected to the system. It operates in integration with the card access control system.
Access control application in general areas at Emsey Hospital is executed by EEC with the UTC Facility Commander Wnx (CASI) products, one of the world's most well-known access control system producers.
At Emsey Hospital, the UTC Facility Commander Wnx (CASI) ensures full control with the IP network control panels, standard control panels, standalone card readers and a wide range of card readers, card and tag options that can be used in the entire system.
16 card readers are connected to 9 IP control units in the card access system implemented in all locations where control is desired. Besides, magnetic contacts placed in the system center to detect unauthorized access are monitored through this system. The nearest camera image of the unauthorized access, particularly through the fire escape doors, is displayed as a pop-up alarm in the access control system software, and the problem is monitored immediately.
This system that was created with the CASI network access control units offers ideal, modular and expandable access control system solutions for all commercial and institutional needs through its flexible and easy-to-use software. The RFID Proximity, PIN, PIN & Prox, Smartcard, RFID ID and the biometric reader options enable smooth integration with the entire UTC Facility Commander Wnx product ranges.
The T-100 proximity card readers used in the system are elegantly-designed devices that have 8 cm card reading distance and suitable for interior and outdoor use.
By using the emergency door opening button on all doors where the card access system is applied, it is ensured that people can open the door by pressing this button directly instead of searching for a card in panic in case of emergency.
The FCWnx v7 software used to configure, monitor and control the system has a structure that ensures viewing of the system through the floor layout plans. Authorization and card identifications made through the software are also recorded in the memory of the control units. In this way, when the software is disabled, there are no disruptions in the operation of the system. When the software is reactivated, the control units transmit the event information in their memory to the software, ensuring that such information is recorded and used for reporting purposes.
The emergency announcement systems, which operate in integration with the fire alarm system, were installed in the hospital to evacuate and warn people in possible emergency situations. It can also broadcast music to ensure a pleasant atmosphere in special areas. The purpose of this system is not only to make announcements and music broadcasting, but also to ensure that the broadcasting is clear, safe and continuous.
The devices used in the Emsey Hospital emergency announcement system were selected from the Bosch Security's Plena range of emergency announcement and public address system products that comply with international safety standards (IEC60849 -EN60065-EN55103). These products, tested and certified with the experience and specialized staff of EEC, were installed.
There are 18 emergency announcement zones within the hospital. All zones are supervised by the line control modules, and can be viewed in case of a short circuit or disconnection on the line. Announcements can be made from the reception and switchboard room through the desktop microphone units. There are more than 500 loudspeakers in the system, and music is broadcast to certain areas by using these loudspeakers. Volume control units are used to turn the sound on and off locally in the areas where music is broadcast.
Multi-channel music broadcasting is possible with additional music sources for special areas. In these areas, people are provided with the opportunity to listen to different music or turn the music off by using channel selectors and volume control units.
To provide better services to patients and their relatives in hospitals and measure the efficiency of the service personnel; the patient/nurse communication systems have become considerably important.
The UTC DUKANE Nurse Call System is used for communication between patients in the wards and healthcare personnel and for reporting emergency situations to hospital personnel.
All nurse call consoles in the system used at Emsey Hospital are microprocessor controlled and have a structure that can operate independently and as a network with the other nurse call consoles.
For a single patient, the single addressable bedside nurse call control unit is microprocessor controlled and features a hand-held call button connected to it, an addressing unit for the bathroom emergency call button and connection terminals. The corded call button that can be used by the patient to call from the bed is connected to the patient bedside unit.
Emergency pull-cords installed in the bathrooms and toilets are monitored by the patient bedside control unit and addressing units. In addition, there are corridor lamps in 4 different colors in each room.
The Code Blue buttons available at certain points of the hospital are integrated into the system through addressing units, and these buttons are monitored through display panels.
Thanks to the database and reporting software, it is possible to collect, sort, store and analyze all call events in the system. Therefore, all concrete performance data required by the hospital management to maximize patient satisfaction can be viewed as a PC printout with a single click.
