Emergency announcement system is a sound system designed, installed and maintained to help evacuate the building in case of an emergency. The public address system does not guarantee working in disasters, that is, in emergencies, while addressing people directly.
There are different emergencies where evacuation of the building needs to be arranged. These can be listed as fire, flood, earthquake, terrorism, social events. The most challenging situation to deal with in such big events is the management of the evacuation of the area where the crowd is located.
The area where the evacuation will take place can be a public area that includes crowds with different characteristics (in terms of age, gender, lack of evacuation training experience or a physical disability). In a workplace, even if all personnel have received training in recognizing alarm tones and signals, it is important that sound management is properly performed and clear.
Key Points to Consider in Emergency Announcement System Design and Implementation »
An emergency announcement system may exist in enclosed areas of certain buildings; and a public address system may exist in outdoor areas such as parking lots, circulation areas, cafeteria, gardens, etc. While the public address system in the outdoor areas is not part of the emergency announcement system, as part of the crowd control strategy in emergencies, it will be used to tell people where they are safe for life safety in the management of crowds in the outdoor areas, or to warn people not to return to the building.
Such a system does not need to fulfill the requirements of emergency announcement in terms of fire resistant cable and failure monitoring etc. Since the system can be controlled from the same control center in integrity, it is useful to monitor the system against errors with the same equipment.
