History and Benefits of Analogue Cameras

The first security cameras were used to view how an incident occurred. Since the 1970s, it has begun to increase its popularity with tube cameras. With the emergence of the first CCD Analogue cameras in the 1990s, their prices started to decrease to reasonable levels, their resolutions started to increase and their usage areas started to expand.

The system was composed of

  • Camera,
  • Recorder and

The camera recorder used RG59/RG6 cables, like the antenna cable used in our homes.

Camera Resolutions

In the 2000s, their resolution was 320 TVL or 480 TVL. There were 960 hours of recording devices recording these cameras. In other words, we were recording up to 960 hours by reducing the number of frames on tapes that could record 25 images in 60 minutes. Each camera could record 1 image in 3-5 seconds, and the clarity was quite low as compared to today.

Over time, the recorders became digital, and the ones that could record to HDD emerged. We called these devices as DVR (Digital Video Recorder). DVRs also developed rapidly, and cameras started to record 25 images at the highest resolution. But that was not enough either! We were still having trouble with making identifications during the cases.

In the meantime, analogue cameras gradually completed their technological life and began to be discontinued. Then they rose from the ashes and came up with names such as AHD, HDTVI, HDCVI and 1.2 or even 5 MP cameras and recorders that allow the use of old coaxial cables.

Advantages of Analogue Cameras

Currently, the most sold recording devices in the sector are this type of Analogue HD devices. The cheapest way to increase the resolution in the old analogue camera system is the Analogue HD camera systems. While you continue to use the cameras in your current system, you can switch your system to an intermediate technology in a very cost-effective manner by replacing only the cameras in the critical places such as entrance doors and your DVR at the center.
