Hey Siri, Could You Open the Door please?

Voice recognition and voice command and device management is a technology that has been used for a long time. You can even drive a car by using this technology. Of course, it is possible to find models that can be managed with voice commands of the electronic appliances we use in our homes or offices. So why does this technology not become widespread in our daily lives even though it has existed for a long time and is sufficiently developed?

First of all, it can execute a limited number of commands defined in the majority of devices operating with voice commands and fabricated products that are not suitable for personalization. Technically, it is possible to overcome this problem by producing more powerful processors and devices with more sensitive microphones. However, this time, another problem arises. Although the devices have more capabilities, it is necessary to introduce our voice to each device and enter the commands individually. Voice recognition technology, which is developed enough to write down what we are talking about, is not becoming widespread due to these two main problems.

How Personal Digital Assistants Operate?

Personal digital assistants are becoming increasingly popular briefly with PDA smartphones. The use of PDA applications on smartphones has reached 40% in America. These applications have started to become widespread in our country with Turkish language support. The PDA applications can translate conversations into meaningful words and sentences by using the microphones and processors of smartphones. They send the meaningful sentences that they obtain to the servers by using the internet connection. The servers run algorithms that record and analyze the data received from the PDA applications. These algorithms send back the most meaningful possible answer to the questioning PDA by using data mining and learning artificial intelligence support. It would not be wrong to say that what can be done with a PDA application running on a smartphone that provides uninterrupted internet access is limited to your dreams.

Home Automation with PDA Technology

Companies that develop the PDA applications also offer home automation kits that can be managed by using PDA. With these automation kits, you can open the door, control the lights or your air conditioner by giving voice commands to your PDA application.

Although PDA application developers enter the smart home market with their own home automation kits, these kits have limited use. However, more comprehensive solutions can be developed by using the application interface (API). Thanks to the API support for the software developers, every company and every product can be adapted to the PDA applications. This will allow us to use the unlimited capabilities of the PDA application as a part of the building management systems.

Buildings that Understand What is Spoken

The applications already developed for smartphones are used as part of EBKS. We mentioned in our article titled "BIM Effect in Integrated Building Control Systems" that all sub-electromechanical systems will be integrated thanks to the BIM-compatible EBKS software. In addition, with the widespread use of IoT, almost all devices we use in our offices or homes will be able to be connected to the network and managed remotely. Of course, smartphone application users developed for EBKS will want to manage all systems and devices in their homes or offices with this application. However, so many devices and systems cannot fit on smart phone screens, and creating sub-screens is not sufficient because smartphone applications consisting of dozens of sub-screens lose their functionality. Although it is not noticed much today, it will soon be a necessity for the building management applications developed for smartphones to be compatible with the PDA.

It's not that far to live in the houses where Siri opens the door, adjusts our air conditioner, turns off the lamp we left on, cooks the meal in the oven, and makes coffee.
